AUGUST 2-4, 2019 – GODDARD STATE PARK

This year’s Reunion celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the 1948-49 Calder Cup Team. The Hampton Inn was once again Reunion headquarters. The Friday night Meet and Greet was a lot of fun, with 60 folks in attendance, as friends got together again and shared laughs, spirits and a great Chelo’s Buffet.

Stories were generated as the mic was passed around. Among the Reds players in attendance were Bruce Cline, Hartland Monahan, Buzz Deschamps, Mike Bloom, Doug Keeler and Pete Demers. Mike Corrigan, who played for Springfield and the L.A. Kings, also made the trip. Comedian Ray Harrington was a hoot with lots of sports jokes and stories, especially concerning hockey and golf.

The Saturday night Dinner-Dance was held at 12 Acres. The Barleyhoppers provided the music for the night. On the menu was chicken, lobster, steak and clam cakes and chowder. Greg Bouris was the keynote speaker. Greg, a Pawtucket, RI, native had recently retired after 19 years as Communications Director the the MLB Players Assoc. He held the same position for 4 years with the NY Islander and Florida Panthers. Andy Mayer and Craig Cimini were presented with the President’s Diligence Awards.

Sunday was a beautiful day at Goddard Park. As usual, festivities took place in the historic Carousel. Tom McDonough introduced the players and dignitaries in attendance after proudly singing the National Anthems with his granddaughter and grandson. Pranzi cooked up a scrumptious steak buffet. Their staff circulated with delicious grilled pizza before the ceremonies. It was an especially busy day at the Reds merchandise table.

Paul Stewart, former NHL player and referee, was the keynote speaker. He also signed his new book “Ya Wanna Go” for the fans. It was also a busy day for Awards. Tops Awards were presented to board member Vin Cimini and former Red and Bruin great, Rick Middleton by new Society president, Andy Mayer. Noel Acciari received the RI Native-Born Award. Ross Brooks was presented with the Ray Ross Perseverance Award. The Fan of the Year Award was presented to Marge McKenney, who has attended every reunion.
