Randolph “Randy” Rota

 

Born August 16, 1950 in Creston, British Columbia, Canada
Height: 5’8”. Weight: 170 lbs

Randy Rota’s diminutive stature belied his exceptional speed and seemingly unlimited drive, which earned him a place in the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

Randy was selected by the California Golden Seals in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. He was optioned the Reds, then the AHL affiliate of the Seals for his first pro season. He became an instant fan favorite, finishing the season second in scoring and a team-leading 31 goals.

He was traded to Montreal at season’s end and continued his torrid scoring with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, again leading the team in goal scoring on the Voyageurs’ way to the 1972 Calder Cup.

His career would include 7 seasons in the NHL & WHA with the Canadiens, Kings, Rockies, KC Scouts and Oilers, retiring after the 1979 season.
