AUGUST 7, 2011 – GODDARD STATE PARK<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the 5th<\/sup> year in a row, the Bower Bus rolled into town on Friday, just in time for the annual \u201cMeet and Greet\u201d and a great buffet along with wines and Narragansett Beer, one of the Reunion sponsors. Reunion first-timers included Gary Collins, Danny Lewicki and Lt. Colonel Ed Staniowski. Ed was a former Reds goalie. In 2011, Ed served in the Canadian Armed Forces, including 3 tours in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

Ed McQueen told the story of his seven years with the Reds and how disappointed he was when traded to Baltimore despite his six great seasons with the Clippers. Danny Lewicki recalled that he was once owned by the Reds but was traded to the Maple Leafs for Jack Hamilton and $35,000. Danny also had a great Phil Watson story.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s main event was a night game at McCoy Stadium, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox. The night\u2019s opponent was the Buffalo Bisons, and no, they did not wear jerseys with Pepsi bottle caps one the chest. With 26 players on the field, Tom McDonough sang the National Anthem in spectacular fashion. Chuck Scherza threw out the first pitch and Bob Leduc was the PawSox honorary team captain. Later, an autograph session was held for the fans with Bob, Johnny Bower, Bruce Cline, Ray Ross and Bob Robertson signing balls and programs. The Red Sox trounced the Bisons, 11-1.<\/p>\n

Unlike the first ten reunions, #11 was a dreary, rainy day, but it did not dampen the spirits of the 300 in attendance. Under the protective cover of the historic Goddard Park carousel building, Rene Rancourt belted out the Canadian and American National Anthems. Then, 35 players were introduced to the crowd, followed by an incredible steak fry buffet.<\/p>\n

The Tops Award recipients this year were Johnny Bower, Bruce Cline and Ed McQueen. The Native Rhode Islander Award went to Lou Lamoriello, and the Service Award was presented to Reds archivist, Roger Gladu.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
