AUGUST 5, 2007 – GODDARD STATE PARK<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bower Bus rolled into the Hampton Inn parking lot for the first time at 5:30 on August 3, 2007. The thirty-seven passengers from Ontario began a fun-filled, three-day stay at the hotel. They included Reds players Ray Ross, Johnny Bower, Aldo Guidolin, Bob Robertson and their guests, whose rooms were complimentary, thanks to the RI Reds Heritage Society\u2019s \u201cHost a Hockey Hero\u201d program. Other family members, friends and hockey fans from up north joined them.<\/p>\n

An informal meet-and-greet reception was held after the folks checked-in after their 11-hour trip. Joining the group were local players and Society sponsors. They enjoyed a delicious buffet and the weekend\u2019s stories began to flow..<\/p>\n

Late Saturday afternoon the bus pulled into Jim and JJ Bennett\u2019s beautiful property in Narragansett. 150 guests attended. The Bennett\u2019s, for the second year in a row, provided sumptuous New England food and great spirits. Music and dancing were part of the fun. Two of the highlights: Music from a private concert nearby featuring Sting could be enjoyed. And Johnny Bower identified goalie pads brought to the party as his pads when he played for the Reds.<\/p>\n

The Sunday event at Goddard Park was fabulous. Rene Rancourt opened the afternoon with his rousing renditions of the Canadian and American national anthems. The players took the stage and were introduced by former Reds stick boy, Tom McDonough.\u00a0 Eddie Shack, Ed McQueen and Yves Locas were at their first reunion. A highlight of the afternoon was acknowledging and honoring Reds Hall of Famers: Milt Schmidt, Johnny Bower, Fernie Flaman, Ed Giacomin, Pete Demers and Gil Mayer. All were in attendance.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Tops Award was presented to fan favorite Bob Leduc, who made RI home after his playing days. Service Awards were presented to Bob and Marge Robertson, Johnny Bower, Ray Ross and Aldo Guidolin for making the Bower Bus happen. Bill Carey, chief usher at the Arena, also received a service award.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
