Alton White<\/strong><\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Alton was one of the most popular players with our RI Reds, scoring 84 goals and 174 points from 1969 thru 1972.<\/p>\n

He was the second black player, after Willie O?Ree, to have played on a professional major league hockey team and the first of African descent to score 20 goals in a single season for a major league team, tallying 21 for the WHA?s LA Sharks in 1973. That season, he also became the first black player to score a hat trick in a major league game.<\/p>\n

Prior to his playing days with the Reds, White was a prolific scorer in juniors, ranking in the top ten in goals and points, and then in the International Hockey League with the Columbus Checkers.<\/p>\n

Following a 30-goal 1971-72 season with the Reds, Alton was selected by the New York Raiders in the 1972 WHA draft. Just 13 games into the season, he was traded by the Raiders to the Los Angeles Sharks, where he recorded his historical scoring marks.<\/p>\n

Alton was enshrined in the Black Ice Hockey & Sports Hall of Fame 2007.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
