John Mariucci was a charter inductee of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame as a player in 1973. He was later selected into the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 1985.<\/p>\n

The Mariucci name was synonymous with the growth of amateur and professional hockey in Minnesota for over 40 years. He was the major reason why the game spread as fast in the Gopher state as anywhere else in the USA.<\/p>\n

As admirable a player as he was, Mariucci\u2019s true calling was as a coach and nurturer of talent. Emphasizing home-grown talent over Canadian recruits when he took over the coaching reins at the University of Minnesota, the bold move sparked a boom in the state\u2019s high school hockey development.<\/p>\n

John played five seasons in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks. In 1940, Mariucci played his only season with the Reds, scoring 3 goals and 6 points in 17 games.<\/p>\n

John won the Lester Patrick Award in 1977 for his contributions to hockey in the United States. The University of Minnesota paid additional tribute to him by naming its hockey facility the Mariucci Arena.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
